BRUNSWICK – Maine State Music Theatre will present the lighthearted, romantic comedy “Thoroughly Modern Millie” beginning June 27 and running through July 14.

The show, with lively tap-dancing and memorable comic characters, is based on the 1967 film of the same name which starred Julie Andrews, Carol Channing and Mary Tyler Moore.

Hollie Howard, who will make her MSMT debut, has been cast as Millie Dillmount. Directing and choreographing “Millie” is Marc Robin, who directed and choreographed the MSMT’s production of “CATS” in 2005. Also returning to MSMT for this production is Music Director Brian Cimmet, whose other MSMT credits include “Aida” and “Ragtime.”

Also cast in the show are Curt Dale Clark as Trevor Graydon, Millie’s new boss whom she is intent on marrying; Ellie Mooney as Millie’s friend, Miss Dorothy Brown; Susan Cella as Mrs. Meers, the shady hotel owner with a lot of hilarious secrets; Cheryl Howard as the successful singing sensation Muzzy Van Hossmere; Connie Shafer as Miss Flannery; and Patrick O’Neill as the romantic Jimmy Smith.

Tickets range from $27 to $49 and are currently available at the MSMT box office by calling 725-8769, or by visiting www.msmt.org.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” continues MSMT’s theme this summer of movies as musicals. Next to take the stage will be “Grand Hotel,” an ensemble musical based on the 1932 Oscar-winning film. The season will end with the smash Broadway hit “Hairspray,” based on the popular 1988 John Waters movie. Tickets to all shows are on sale now.
