At an early hour Sunday morning at the storehouse containing furs valued at over $50,000, together with a large vinegar factory, which was filled with sporting goods of all kinds, engine and boiler house, all connected into one building over 120 feet long and another separate storehouse filled with farming implements of various kinds, all the property of George R. Hunnewell of South Auburn, were destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at $80,000. Insurance, $15,000 on buildings and $20,000 on furs. Fire is believed to have caught from a live cigar stub.

• The dollar value of Maine exports to Venezuela rose about 35 per cent in the last two years, it was revealed today. Eight Maine communities were listed in the report: Biddeford, cotton textiles; Brunswick, paper products; Buckfield, shoe findings and machinery; Bucksport, paper products; Lewiston, cotton place goods; Poland Spring, mineral water; Portland, industrial hardware, and South Paris, garden furniture.

• Maine drivers will be charged an additional $2 to renew their licenses starting next week, but they’ll get something extra for the money: a Polaroid photograph of themselves.
Under a new law that takes effect Thursday, Maine will become the 47th state to issue permanently sealed and laminated licenses that contain the driver’s picture, said Secretary of State Rodney Quinn.
• Returning to a problem that has plagued the city for nearly half a century, the Lewiston City Council on Thursday decided to solicit proposals for a new police station.
