MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – Definitive tests to determine if a cow on a Northeast Kingdom farm had tuberculosis were negative, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture said Wednesday.

In May, the farm, which has not been publicly identified, was quarantined after two cows tested positive for TB after routine testing done before the animals could be exported to Canada.

Secondary tests on one of those two cows came back negative, but the other animal had a second positive test.

The cow was euthanized and tissue sent to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, for definitive testing.

The state was told last week the tests were negative.

All 400 animals on the Northeast Kingdom were tested for TB and all came back negative. The quarantine on the farm has been lifted.

Vermont has been free of bovine tuberculosis since 1979.
