NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) – State and local police were investigating the death of a city woman whose body was found wrapped in a blanket and stashed in a shopping cart.
Sgt. Darren Pearson said an anonymous caller tipped police off just before 8 a.m. The shopping cart was outside a building near the corners of Beatty and Sexton streets. The state police major crime squad and representatives from the New Britain state’s attorney’s office also were called in.
Police identified the 39-year-old woman through fingerprints, Pearson said. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.
An autopsy was performed Friday, but more tests are needed to pinpoint the cause of death. Pearson said police are treating the incident as a suspicious death.
