CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Thousands of doses of rabies vaccine are being dropped over northern New Hampshire this week to try to immunize raccoons.

The 30,000 catsup-sized packets will be dropped over 210 square miles, mostly along the Connecticut River Valley in the far northern tip of the state. The fish-scented packets also are being dropped over parts of Vermont and New York State.

Coordinator John McConnell said planes will begin flying as early as Tuesday out of Newport, Vt. Flights will be over four days, weather-permitting. The mission will require three to four flights a day, with planes flying about 500 feet above the ground.
