PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – A dog injured while helping save a family from a house fire in Ossipee last week has died.

Perry, an 8-year-old mastiff, died Monday night at the Portsmouth Emergency Veterinary Clinic.

Veterinary Technician Krystle Cote said the dog suffered lung damage from smoke inhalation.

She said the owners were awakened by commotion caused by Perry and at least three other dogs in the home, allowing the family time to escape.
