An A1 story on Sunday, Aug. 9, should have noted that the Long Island Express hurricane hit Maine early on Sept. 21, 1938. The hurricane was one of the worst experienced in New England. Winds in the Lewiston-Auburn area were estimated at 60 miles per hour; half the state was without phones and lights for three days. Statistics provided by the National Hurricane Center and reported in the story did not include the 1938 hurricane.
