CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -New Hampshire regulators will hold hearings starting next week on proposed rate increases for several small telephone companies.

TDS Telecommunications Corporation has asked to raise rates for two telephone companies it operates: Merrimack County Telephone Company and Kearsarge Telephone Company.

If approved, rates would increase by more than 10 percent a year. Regulators want to know if customers have competitive alternatives.

Hearings will be held Oct. 4 at Kearsarge Regional High School in Sutton and Oct. 10 at Hopkinton High School.
