PLYMOUTH, N. H. (AP) – A grand jury has raised the criminal charges against a Plymouth State University student accused of throwing a punch that led to the death of a fellow student in April.

Twenty-year-old Benjamin Grew of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, is now charged with negligent homicide in the death of Jared Barrows of Marshfield, Massachusetts.

Prosecutors say that in an early morning scuffle Grew hit Barrows in the head, causing Barrows to fall and hit his head on the ground. Barrows, who would have graduated last spring, died six days later.

Grew, who remains free on $10,000 bail, was initially charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident.
