RICHMOND, R.I. (AP) – A police officer in Richmond saved a couple from a burning house.
Officer John Randall says he was sent to a report of a house fire and saw a man standing but slumped over near a front room.
He kicked open a door and pulled 52-year-old Arthur Kocsi to safety. But Kocsi warned him that his girlfriend was still inside.
Randall says he wasn’t able to enter the house because of heavy smoke. When he went around the home, he heard 46-year-old Lisa Sykes calling for help from a basement window.
The officer broke the window and rescued Sykes and a dog.
The couple was taken to South County Hospital for treatment.
