BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) – Researchers at Roger Williams University are getting ready to replant more than one million oysters in Narragansett Bay.
It’s part of a program intended to revive the state’s declining oyster population.
University officials say that after collecting the oysters from nearly 20 farms along the bay, the creatures will be counted, measured and compared.
Then they’ll be replanted along Jenny’s Creek on Prudence Island and in Bristol Harbor.

Three police officers were slightly injured.
One of the injured residents was in the bedroom where the fire started.
Two others were in the same first floor of the two-story building when the flames broke out.
McGinn says there was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
It’s unclear how the police officers were injured.
Maine Guard leader backs Cote
PORTLAND (AP) – The leader of the Maine National Guard is throwing his support behind Democrat Adam Cote in the 1st District congressional race.
Maj. Gen. Bill Libby, commander of the Maine National Guard, made his endorsement in a letter written to veteran groups this week. Cote, a Portland lawyer, served as a soldier in Bosnia from 1997 to 1998 and in Iraq from 2003 to 2004.
Libby tells the Portland Press Herald that that he checked with lawyers before advocating for Cote. He was advised that he could endorse a candidate provided he used his own letterhead and made no reference to his state position.
He says he settled on Cote because “this is a guy I simply trust.”
Cote is one of six candidates seeking the seat that’s being vacated by Rep. Tom Allen, who’s running for the Senate.
