PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – State Treasurer Frank Caprio says he has given nearly $30,000 of his own money to help people whose cars were tagged and towed during the traffic jams caused by the December 13th snowstorm.
Caprio’s father – Providence Municipal Court Judge Frank Caprio – also says he’ll tell his clerks to dismiss the Providence tickets of those towed because of the storm.
The state treasurer says he was helping people pay their tickets and tow bills out of common decency.
The beneficiaries were grateful and surprised at the rare act of generosity.
He says the people were playing by the rules as they tried to get home safely when they got stuck on the road.
