PORTLAND (AP) – A study into the fairness of the Maine Turnpike toll structure is taking longer than expected.

The 22-member advisory committee hoped to wrap up its work this month. But members say the toll structure is so complex that they’re not sure when they’ll come up with a plan to make the tolls more equitable.

Former state transportation commissioner Dana Connors heads the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the tool study group.

Connors says he’d be surprised if the committee can conclude its work with a consensus in its next two meetings. The next meeting will be Jan. 9.
