LISBON – “With the start of the new year, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars are beginning a statewide membership drive,” said Department President Jane Poulin of Lisbon.
“We are striving for each of our auxiliaries throughout Maine to sign up as many new members as possible starting Jan. 1, 2008. We have 45 local auxiliaries throughout the state and joining is easy,” said Poulin.
Since 1914 the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary has worked to ensure that America’s veterans are not forgotten and those who need assistance will get it, said Poulin. Each year donations are made to help make life better for active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families and America’s communities.
Care packages have been sent to troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar and other locations. Members also donate to Operation Uplink, which supplies free long-distance calling cards to active-duty military and hospitalized veterans to help them stay in touch with their families.
To join, Poulin recommends calling a local VFW Post and asking for the number of the auxiliary membership chairman or president or contacting State Membership Chairwoman Joan Hebert of Auburn at jocah66@aol.com.
