BOSTON (AP) – Boston Mayor Thomas Menino says he wants to turn Boston’s sea breezes into clean energy – starting with City Hall.

Menino is unveiling plans to build a small-scale wind turbine at City Hall and study the possibility of building larger turbines at up to six Boston public schools.

Menino also said the city should try to develop new wind energy zoning codes to encourage private wind turbine projects.

The city has been collecting wind data on the roof of City Hall since October. Menino said the wind quality could support a small roof-mounted turbine.

He said wind energy has the potential to create new jobs and boost the city’s economy.
