WARE, Mass. (AP) – A blaze in an apartment building behind Ware’s fire station has led to the discovery of the body of an elderly woman.
Ware Fire Chief Thomas Coulombe said investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire and what killed the woman, who was in her 60s. Her identity was withheld.
Coulombe said two of the buildings’ five apartments were affected by the fire that caused about $75,000 in damage.
He said there was heavy fire on the first floor and smoke on the second floor, where the woman was found.
Coulombe said 35 firefighters responded.
