BARRE, Vt. (AP) – Police say methamphetamine-laced ecstasy, a dangerous illegal drug manufactured in Canada, is turning up in Vermont.

Vermont State Police Lieutenant Leo Bachand, the head of the Northern Drug Task Force, said police recently arrested a St. Johnsbury man for selling the turbo-charged ecstasy and several people for trying to smuggle the pills across the Canadian border.

Last month John Walters, head of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, issued a press release warning about an influx of the drug.

But Canadian officials have disputed claims that organized crime rings in Canada are dumping the drug into the United States.
