CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith of New Hampshire says he never agreed to be a presidential candidate for the Constitution Party.
Smith – who now lives in Florida – told The Associated Press on Monday he plans to focus his time on his family.
An e-mail sent by the party on Friday listed Smith among potential candidates heading into the convention next month in Kansas City. Gary Odom, the party’s national field director, said Smith dropped out.
Smith said he never agreed to be a candidate.
Smith was elected to the Senate as a Republican in 1990 and 1996.
The party’s goal, according to its Web site, is to “limit the federal government to its delegated, enumerated, Constitutional functions and to restore American jurisprudence to its original Biblical common-law foundations.”
