AUBURN – Pepsi rallied for a dramatic 11-9 win over Austin’s in the Major Division championship game of Auburn Suburban Little League.
Trailing by three runs entering the top of the final inning, Pepsi rallied for five with clutch hitting by C.J. Jipson, Jarod Norcross-Plourde and Elijah Moreshead.
Austin’s jumped out to an early six-run lead on the strength of big hits from Michael Hammond and Matt and Justin Keaney.
Pepsi keeped chipping away at the lead, with Moreshead smashing a pair of home runs and Brandon Polisky and Ian Mileikis adding timely knocks.
Noah Yarnevich came on in relief in the third inning and held Austin’s to two runs the rest of the way while striking out four to pick up the win. Drew Lashua and Zach Abisalih led Pepsi’s tidy defense. Austin’s also was stellar in the field, with Hammond making the play of the game by diving at shortstop to take away a base hit from Mileikis.
