BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Despite committing six defensive errors, baserunning blunders, and showing a lack of hustle at times, Winthrop still managed a 15-7 rout of the Downeast Dodgers in Men’s Senior Baseball League action Friday.

The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second after Eric Palleschi hit his fifth consecutive double with one out. Bob Cochran followed with a single, and Dave Ricker cracked a two-run double. Ricker eventually scored on a wild pitch to close out the scoring.

Downeast answered back in the bottom of the frame when winning pitcher Jim Morris served up a towering solo home run to center field off the bat of John Roitano.

That’s as close as the Dodgers would get, with Winthrop scoring runs in every inning except the first and eighth. Winthrop hitters touched up Downeast pitching for 15 hits, with Morris collecting four on the night. Palleschi, Cochran, Ricker and Josh Nichols also repeated for Winthrop (9-3).

Hank Ogilby led the Dodgers (4-9) with three hits while Roitano and Rusty Klobas knocked two apiece.
