SOUTH PARIS – The second annual Police vs. Firefighters slow pitch softball game, a fundraiser for REACH (Rape Education and Crisis Helpline), will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, August 16, at Gouin Athletic Complex softball field on Alpine St.
Teams are comprised of police and firefighters from Oxford South Paris and Norway, as well as the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department and State Police. The police won last year’s benefit game, 16-15, and the firefighters have vowed to win this year. The winning team will be able to display the Softball Challenge plaque for the year.
In addition to the game, refreshments will be available, as well as a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the Norway, Oxford and South Paris Police and Fire Departments, at the REACH Office, One East Main St., S. Paris, or at game time. Children under 12 are admitted free. It is suggested to arrive a little early for tickets purchased at the gate. Rain date is August 23.
The partnership between REACH and law enforcement is a natural one, as the organizations work cooperatively on some reports of sexual assault, including cases involving the sexual abuse of children. Funds raised will be used to expand REACH’s Awareness and Risk Reduction Prevention Programs into elementary schools throughout Oxford county. These programs have been presented in middle and high schools since the 1980s to the six school districts throughout Oxford County.
