LEWISTON – The 2008-09 Lewiston Demons middle school hockey team invites any player that will attend Lewiston middle school or elementary school grades 6 through 8 to attend its tryout at 5:40 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 7 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Please arrive 45 minutes before the start time to register. All candidates must bring a copy of their current 2008-2009 USA hockey registration to be allowed on ice. There will be a non-refundable tryout fee of $20.

CMCC point guard camps in September

AUBURN – The Central Maine Community College athletic department is pleased to announce its accepting applications for its Point Guard Basketball Camp on a first-come, first-served basis.

The girls’ camp is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The boys’ session will be Sunday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The camp is designed to educate and improve the skills of the point guard. It will combine in-class instruction with on-court instruction presenting all aspects of the position. Players attending the camp will receive individual attention from USCAA All-Americans Dan Debruin and Patrick Dempsey, two of the best ever to play at CMCC. Players can expect to leave the camp with not only improved skills but a better understanding of the point guard’s role on the court.

Among skills covered will be shooting off the dribble, protective dribble moves, aggressive dribbling, screen and roll, point guard mentality, passing, footwork, fast break preparation and much more.

Dirigo boosters golf, roast on Sunday

MEXICO – Dirigo High School athletic boosters will host their second-annual golf scramble and pig roast at Oakdale Country Club. The tournament will benefit Dirigo athletes.

The scramble is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 7, with registration between 8 and 9 a.m. Lunch at 1:30 p.m. is included.

Teams of four are invited. Cost is $210 per riding team, $150 per walking team. The boosters also welcome tee sponsors, either on behalf of local businesses or in memory of friends and loved ones, at $35 per hole.
