RANGELEY – Acclaimed Scottish band Findlay Napier and The Bar Room Mountaineers will perform Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 16-17, at Lakeside Theater and Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center, respectively.
Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m., courtesy of New England Celtic Arts.
This is the seventh in a series of 10 concerts shared by the two theaters this season. Reservations are suggested at both venues.
Findlay Napier & the Bar Room Mountaineers is a song-focused band with a rich, roots-y progressive sound. Playing songs written by Napier and traditional Scottish material, The Mountaineers also draw influences from blues, Americana, folk, funk and country yet remain uniquely Scottish. They have also been members of several groundbreaking bands on the Scottish music scene.
Napier, vocalist and guitarist, is best known for his work with the award-winning Celtic group Back of the Moon and more recently with Queen Anne’s Revenge. Other band members are Gillian Frame, vocals and fiddles, inaugural winner of the Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year Award in 2001; Paul Jennings, vocals and percussion, one of Scotland’s top percussionists; and Douglas Millar, vocals and keyboards, who has played with many of the luminaries on the Scottish scene and beyond from Fred Morrison to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
“All Night Out,” the band’s debut album, is steeped in a rich and diverse musical tradition and draws on influences from many corners of the world. As one Scottish journalist recently commented after seeing the band: “They are giving birth to a new genre: Scottish Americana.”
Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2 in Carthage. Lakeside Theater is on Main Street, Rangeley. Tickets are $10 at the door. Call 562-4445 for reservations. More information is available at www.necelticarts.com.
