RUMFORD – During two selectmen meetings, Code Enforcement Officer Rick Kent did not specify the width of a stairway at the rear of the building at 14 Prospect Ave. Additionally, he did not say that windows had to be broken to allow egress. Bedroom windows too small to serve as exits do not meet current codes. Only one window must be wider than the others. The information was incorrectly reported on page B2 on Sept. 20 and on page B3 on Oct. 3 in the River Valley editions.
