AUBURN – More than 175 alumni, friends and family gathered at St. Dominic Regional High School last month to honor six individuals and one former State and New England Champion at the inaugural St. Dom’s Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Brian Boucher was presented with the first Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of his father, Coach Bob Boucher. Alumni Fern Cloutier (Class of 1951), Dick Lafrance (’53, posthumously), Dick Robert (’65), and Pauline Therriault Veinote (’85), along with Coach Albert Strong were also inducted for their athletic achievements and contributions to the St. Dom’s family.

Seven team members or wives of team members from the 1951 State and New England champion boys hockey team were also present to be honored.

Goalie Rene Lajoie, who was unable to complete his education at St. Dom’s due to his military service during the Korean War, was presented with an honorary diploma from St. Dom’s principal Donald Fournier.

“This is the beginning of a great new tradition at St. Dom’s,” said Fournier. “The evening brought to life again the heartfelt pride that has been a cornerstone of St. Dom’s for so many years. It is a privilege to honor these individuals for their contributions to our community.”

St. Dom’s Athletic Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame Class of 2009.
