YARMOUTH – Nominations are being accepted for 2009 induction into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. Materials, including a reume, should be mailed to Maine Baseball Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 1062, Yarmouth, Maine 04096.
Founded in 1969, the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame honors players, coaches, umpires, organizers and benefactors from all corners of the state who have achieved prominence in Maine baseball or made valuable contributions to the sport.
The deadline for applications is Dec. 10.
Lewiston travel hoop openings remain
LEWISTON – Openings remain for players on the Lewiston seventh and eighth-grade boys’ basketball travel team coached by Lonnie Thomas. Anyone interested in trying out for the team should call the Lewiston Department of Recreation at 513-3005. Next practice will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Lewiston Memorial Armory.

Bruins-Pirates benefit game Thursday
PORTLAND – The Boston Bruins and Maine Mariners/Portland Pirates all-star alumni teams will meet in a benefit hockey game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cumberland County Civic Center.
More than 30 former professional NHL and AHL players will participate. Bruins Alumni include Hall of Famers Ray Bourque, Brad Park and Rick Middleton as well as Don Sweeney, Ken Linseman, Bob Sweeney, Andy Brickley, Bob Beers and Bruce Shoebottom. The Mariners/Pirates All-Star roster includes current Portland Pirates coach Kevin Dineen, Eric Weinrich, Bob Corkum, Frank Bathe, Steve Tsujiura, Paul Evans, Guy Delparte and Kent Hulst.
Proceeds from the game will go towards establishing a tuition assistance fund to help underprivileged children and families participate in youth hockey and help reduce other program costs. Tickets are available through the civic center box office at 775-3458 for a $15 donation.
