LEWISTON – The Lewiston Jr. Maineiacs Bantam Travel hockey team continued its unbeaten streak against in-state rivals with a 6-0 blanking of USM Huskies Bantam Travel.
Alex Gregoire scored two goals for the Juniors. Greg Alexander, Luke Olehowski, Brendan Pelletier and Eric Soucy added one goal apiece. Drew Olehowski, Korey Mulherin and James Waldron fueled the balanced offense with one assist each.
Lewiston (14-0-2, 22-3-2 overall) will compete this weekend in the National Youth Hockey League Challenge Cup in Marlboro, Mass.
Maineiacs Squirts go 3-0-1 in busy weekend
Lewiston Jr. Maineiacs Squirt Travel defeated Central Maine, Brewer and Gorham and tied Biddeford over the weekend.
Joe Bisson led the Maineiacs (22-4-3) with a hat trick in a 7-3 triumph over Central. Conrad Grimmer chipped in two more goals. Cameron Dionne and Luc Dostie rounded out the scoring. Noah Buiniskas, Roman Dennis and Kyle Welch each produced an assist. Welch also was the winning goalie.
Jeromey Rancourt struck for a goal and two assists and Bisson scored twice in a 5-1 victory over Brewer. Cooper Richard and Buiniskas each added a goal in support of netminder Devin Dumont.
Lewiston scored all three of its goals in the second period of the deadlock with Biddeford.
Rancourt, Isaac Dube and Bisson each found the net. Buiniskas, Bryce Leger, Grimmer and Ryley Austin picked up the assists. Welsh worked between the pipes.
Dumont scored the 4-0 shutout in goal against the Huskies.
Dionne, Justin Keaney, Bisson and Grimmer each scored. Buiniskas, Richard and Bisson provided assists.
Squirts also are headed to the Challenge Cup.
