AUGUSTA – The Maine Elks Association State Hoop Shoot competition was held Feb. 1 at Cony High School. Eighteen boys and girls competed in the contest to determine the six state champions, who have earned the right to advance to the regional contest to be held March 27-29 in South Portland.

Boys, age 8-9: 1. Emmet Shell, Rockland; 2, Ben Christopher, Farmington; 3. Ryan Hoogterp, Old Town.

Girls, age 10-11: 1. Taylor Sargent, Portland; 2. Dominique Lewis, Waterville; 3. Courtney Dunton, Bangor.

Boys, age 10-11: 1. Michael Wiper, Portland; 2. Justin Evans, Farmington; 3. Parker Brewer, Houlton.

Girls, age 12-13: 1. Carmen Bragg, Presque Isle; 2. Cheyenne Malloy, Skowhegan/Madison; 3. Allie Clement, Portland.

Boys, age 12-13: 1. Isaiah Patterson, Rockland; 2. Ethan Jordan, Augusta; 3. Brendan Newcomb, Bangor.

Since its inception in 1946, the Elks National Hoop Shoot competition has grown to include more than 3 million participants annually.
