NEW IPSWICH, N.H. (AP) – A cross-country ski area that has attracted as many as 1,100 skiers a day is going up for sale in New Ipswich, N.H.

Al Jenks has run the Windblown Cross Country Ski Area on his land since 1972, starting with a few short paths in the woods and expanding to 25 miles of groomed trails. But decades of hard work came crashing down in December’s ice storm, which toppled so many trees, Jenks had a hard time identifying where trails had been.

Hundreds of volunteers have helped clear about a third of the trails since then, but Jenks says this year will be his last running the business. He is fielding offers from individuals and says a group of Boston-area skiers are interested in buying Windblown and running it as a nonprofit.
