BETHEL – Gould Academy will send three freestyle skiers to compete at the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships in Squaw Valley, Calif., from March 27-29.

It’s the first time since 2000 that Gould freestylers have qualified for this annual event, where the nation’s top skiers, including U.S. Ski Team athletes, are matched with young, up-and-coming skiers.

“These kids have worked extremely hard all year long and well deserve this tremendous opportunity to compete with the best in the country,” said Gould freestyle coach John Kimble.

Junior Troy Murphy and ninth grader Jackie O’Sullivan will both compete in dual moguls.

Murphy was voted this year’s USSA Eastern Division Most Improved Skier, while O’Sullivan took the Eastern Division Rookie of the Year honor. Sophomore Casey Craig will compete in halfpipe.

Other Gould on-snow athletes competing at the national level include five snowboarders who will travel to the USASA Nationals in Copper, Colo., from April 5-10. They include: Conor McCarthy, Shea McCarthy, Robbie Moulton, Cody Martin and Kevin Keogh.

Alpine skier Victoria Bobbe competed at the J2 National Junior Olympics in Aspen, Colo., earlier this month.

Nordic skier Jeb Clarke was named a first alternate for the J2 National XC Junior Olympics held in Truckee, Calif.
