CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Organizations throughout northern New Hampshire, Vermont and parts of Quebec will receive more than $1 million from a charitable fund set up by the former owners of the Balsams Grand Resort.

Through the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund has awarded grants to 16 projects focused on economic development, education, conservation and meeting a community’s basic needs.

The largest award was $200,000 for Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and the North Country Palliative Care Collaboration.

Neil Tillotson, who died in 2001, was born in nearby Vermont, and was famous for casting the first ballot in Dixville Notch’s presidential primary every four years.
