Reader misses restaurant, bowling alley

Dear Sun Spots: We live in Greene and have loved having some great
places to eat here. Can you find out what happened to Country Cookin’?
They seemed to be doing well not long ago. But they suddenly
disappeared. Also, it seems a crying shame that Auburn Lanes got priced
out of that building about three years ago. And nothing has been in there
since. Can you find out how the family is doing? We really miss having
a candlepin bowling alley nearby. — Colleen, Greene.
Answer: Sun Spots is afraid we don’t have the information you are
looking for. A phone number is unavailable for the owners of Country
Cookin’, but an employee at the Town Office did confirm that they are
closed. No one picks up at the restaurant phone number.
There is also no contact information available for Pat and Chip Irish, owners of the former Auburn Lanes that closed in 2005, and we attempted to contact someone who participated in the league at Auburn Lanes, to no avail. Perhaps readers who have more information will write to the column.
Dear Sun Spots: Our dad is in a nursing home and wheelchair bound. We would love to take him out once in a while but it is becoming quite difficult to transfer him from wheelchair to a vehicle. My dad has two granddaughters getting married soon and we would love to have him at the weddings, but having to make several transfers may become too much for him. We are looking for a vehicle that transports wheelchairs and would like to know if anyone knows of anybody who rents them or someone who may have one who is willing to help us. We contacted the retailers in your area and they don’t carry the 100 percent cotton pants, so you might consider contacting Dickies for a catalog of their items or to order directly.
