Business owners update readers on whereabouts

Dear Sun Spots: Recently my husband bought a box of old magazines at a
garage sale in South Paris. Among the magazines were three pictures
that I thought some of your readers might be interested in.

The first picture is on the Lewiston High School Band in 1953. All of the members and leaders are shown.

The second picture is undated and very old. It is of a house and
barn with a man and woman out in front. On the back someone has written,
“Old Dennett home – site of Edward Tillson residence, High St. [no
town]. Burned with Webb Hall’s hotel.” Surely these people are
someone’s ancestors.

The third picture is also very old. It is of an old graveyard with a
large white colonial building and an open carriage shed beyond it. On
the back someone has written “Old Bowdoin Meeting House (circa 1790).
Demolished by vandals about 1940. Taken before 1900.”

I thought perhaps some town’s historical society might like the old
photos and a member of the 1953 LHS band might like that one.

• In response to Colleen in Greene who inquired about the owners of Country Cookin’ and Auburn Lanes, both families contacted the Sun Spots column with an update for you.

Tina Parker from Country Cookin’ wrote: I am touched to hear that one of my loyal customers is looking for me and wants to know what happened to Country Cookin’. Unfortunately we tried to struggle through the economy over the last year or so but just could no longer afford to continue. It was a painstaking decision that had to be made and I would like to say thank you to all our customers that enjoyed our food over the years! The staff and I miss you as well ! We hope to be back somehow, somewhere in the near future! I can be contacted at parks988@roadrunner.com anytime. Again, thank you! — Tina Parker and staff.

Pat Irish, former owner of Auburn Lanes, contacted the column to update readers on how they are doing. The Irish’s are still residing in Auburn, currently in a condominium. Pat noted that the official reason that the business closed was because the lease was increased $1,000 each month and they couldn’t make it work. They do not own the building.

Chip is on full disability; he has cancer and had a kidney removed right before the business closed. He worked full-time at L.L. Bean until December, when he had to leave for medical reasons.

Pat also works the seasonal shift at L.L. Bean and will return in the fall. She told Sun Spots that they really miss the bowlers and was happy to hear people were concerned.

Dear Sun Spots: The class of 1969 Livermore Falls High school is planning a 40th class reunion on August 29 at Maple Lane in Livermore.
