CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) – A judge’s illness has forced the postponement of the sentencing of a man who pleaded guilty to abusing residents at a Texas facility for the developmentally disabled.

D’Angelo Riley, 23, waived his right to a jury and pleaded guilty earlier this week to three counts of injury to a disabled person. State District Judge Sandra Watts was scheduled to begin taking testimony in the penalty phase Thursday afternoon in Corpus Christi. Instead, she canceled the court session. Sentencing has not been rescheduled.

Six former employees of the Corpus Christi State School were accused of orchestrating late-night fights between residents.
