Dear Sun Spots: I am a local crafter, and I am looking to be a part of some of the local craft shows in Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding towns. I know there are local craft shows at schools and such, and I was wondering if you knew of any craft shows and how to get in contact with them. Thanks.

— Lewiston Crafter

Answer: Holiday craft fairs will be starting soon, and there are many in this region and the state. The Lewiston Armory holds at least one craft fair during the season, and there is another at Longley School. Contact Kathleen Saucier at 786-2181 about the Longley School fair.

The Center for Maine Craft is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Gardiner
Service Plaza. The center offers works by more than 300 Maine craft artists,
musicians and artisan food producers. You can read more about them at www.mainecrafts.org or call 588-0021.

The Maine Crafts Association in Dover Foxcroft may be a good source of information. You can call them at 564-0041 or e-mail info@mainecrafts.org.

If you want to check out a craft show featuring some of Maine’s best crafters, the Maine Crafts Guild is having a show in Portland on Sept. 19-20 at the Portland East End School & Community Center. It will be having a show in Augusta as well, Nov. 7-8 at the Maine State Museum Show
Cultural Building. The craft guild offers memberships, and crafters can apply to present their wares at their shows. Contact the Maine Crafts Guild,
35 Pines Road,
Benton Falls, ME 04901, 314-7213, or visit their Web site at www.mainecraftsguild.com.

Most important, read Check It Out in the Sun Journal. Most of the local craft shows post their upcoming shows in that calendar, which is divided into four regions to make locating events easier.

Dear Sun Spots:
In Wednesday’s paper, you had an inquiry about the Vincent Bottling Co. Louis Vincent, who was the son of Sabin Vincent, was my children’s great-grandfather. My oldest carries his name, Louis Vincent Leblanc. I am wondering if the person who wrote to you would like to sell the bottle? My children do have a collection that we have found in various antique shops. If readers are interested in selling or would like more information, please have them contact me through my e-mail, ronaldcheryl@yahoo.com, or call 777-5155.
Thank you for all you do.

Dear Sun Spots: A teacher friend of mine is searching for a
game that came out in 1985 called “So You Think You Know Maine.”
She has not been able to find it anywhere and would like to obtain it
to use as a teaching tool in her class.
If anyone knows where I can buy one or someone would be willing to
donate it, it would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached 441-
5014.
Thank you very much.

Answer: Sun Spots found three copies of a board game by that name for sale on eBay. However, from the photographs of the boxes, they appear to be slightly different editions. To make sure that the game is the one your friend wants, she may want to check out a full description of the game found at www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/20712. Perhaps readers may also be able to help.

Dear Sun Spots:
The Senior Companion Program is looking for caring people in the Lewiston-Auburn and South Paris-Norway areas. Senior companions spend 15-20 hours a week making the days a little brighter for homebound/isolated elderly persons.
The program is sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and is partnered with Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, Clover Health Care and SeniorsPlus.

If you are at least 55 years of age and are on a limited income, you may be eligible to become a senior companion. Companions receive a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits.
