DEAR SUN SPOTS: There are many youth experiencing homelessness at Lewiston High School and in the greater L-A community. LHS faculty and staff are gathering gifts for more than 100 of these young people this holiday season. Gifts from individuals, groups and businesses will help these youth know they are being cheered on by their community. We would love for you to be a part of this!

If you would like to help fulfill specific needs and wishes of students in the STEP (Students Transitioning Experiencing Progress) program at LHS, please contact us directly. Otherwise, below is a list of gifts that can be brought to the Main Office at LHS by Dec. 16.

If you are unable to drop them off, please contact Annie Doran, STEP Academic Liaison, adoran@lewistonpublicschools.org, 795-4190, ext. 2215, or Mary Seaman, mseaman@lewistonpublicschools.org, ext. 2214. Please remember, these gifts are for high-school-aged students. Also, they need to be unwrapped. We also gladly accept cash donations. Thank you for supporting our youth!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a couple of requests. Does anyone out there have a car seat for a 2-year-old in good condition they no longer need? If so, would they be willing to donate it to someone who really needs it? They may call 743-2768. It would be so appreciated!

Second, I heard a song that I believe was by Alan Jackson called “Don’t Worry About Me.” Can you tell me when this will be in stores?

Thank you for all the help you give. You’re the reason I buy the Sun Journal! — No Name, Norway

ANSWER:
Sun Spots has to admit that country music is not one of her strengths, but according to what she found on the Internet, the title to the song you seek is “Sissy’s Song.” It is on Alan Jackson’s “Good Time” album, which Bull Moose music shows as available online for $11.95, so if you go into their store at 855 Lisbon St. or call them at 784-6463, they should be able to help you. The song and video are available for downloading online, including as a ring tone for your cell phone.

According to an article on www.theboot.com, Jackson wrote the song about his housekeeper, Leslie “Sissy” Fitzgerald, who died in a motorcycle accident. Another online posting said that the last words her husband said to her were “Don’t worry about me.”

“She was just somebody who was in our house everyday …,” Jackson told The Boot, “then all of a sudden [she was] gone. When people get old, you expect them to die, but it’s different when they are young and it’s tragic like that.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few months ago, there were some requests about fiberglass repairs on bathtubs and you kindly put my name in your column to be contacted. I did receive several calls.

Some of them were requesting resurfacing of their porcelain or claw foot tubs. I have recently completed training on this procedure and would like to get in contact with them again. I may be reached at 783-5944 or 577-3023 or e-mail me at smcorro3@myfairpoint.net. Thanks again for your recommendation. — Steve Corro, Lewiston
