WESTBROOK — On Nov. 17, 18 and 19, the eighth annual Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour visited Central and Western Maine and made stops in 10 communities located in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties. While in each community, the tour also made a contribution to a local food pantry for a combined total of $1,000.
The following area food pantries each received a check for $100: Auburn, the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project; Farmington, Care & Share Food Closet; Jay, Tri-Town Ministerial Association; Kingfield, United Methodist Economic Ministry Food Bank; Lewiston, Trinity Church Jubilee Center; Lisbon, Lisbon Area Christian Outreach; Mexico, GRAMPA Food Pantry; Norway, Oxford Hills Food Pantry; Sabattus, Community Free Baptist Food Pantry; and South Paris, Community Concepts.
During the walk, Brenda Davis, executive director of Cross Roads Ministries of Old Town, traveled throughout Maine covering more than 1,600 miles. She walked in each community she visited to bring awareness to the severity that hunger exists in Maine.
Davis visited food pantries, hunger organizations and credit unions in each town she visited. At each credit union, she picked up a contribution from the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger as a way to support her cause. In addition, the campaign contributed more than $6,200 to food pantries throughout Maine. A food pantry in each community that Davis visited received a $100 contribution.
- Adam Morris, left, marketing director at Maine Family Federal Credit Union, welcomed Brenda Davis and the Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour to the credit union’s office in Auburn, one of the 62 communities throughout the state the tour visited during November.
