DEAR SUN SPOTS: Several of us ladies here in Mechanic Falls would like to know where to get pinking shears sharpened. Can you or your readers help? Thank you. — Maggie, Mechanic Falls
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am visiting here in Rumford with my aunt who is 102. I am from Middleboro, Mass., right next to Plymouth. Would you ask your readers if they know of anyone in this area who sharpens knives. It seems to be a lost art, as I am not able to find anyone at home either.
I love your column and look forward to it each morning. At home in our local paper we have a column called “Problem Solver.” Thanking you in advance. — Sandy V., Rumford
ANSWER: Sun Spots didn’t find any service in Rumford, although that certainly doesn’t mean there isn’t one. (Readers, do you know of any?) She did find Mathieu Saw & Tool, 7 Enterprise St., Lewiston, 783-9087. Their price range for kitchen knives is $1.50 to $5.50. Sharpening of pinking shears is $5.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Again I come to you with another question. Can you find out the telephone number for the company Haband? I read Sun Spots daily. Thank you. — LTD, No Town
ANSWER: As is becoming typical for online companies, phone numbers are generally not displayed prominently on Web sites. Sun Spots was successful, however; you can call 1-800-213-1220 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for customer service. Another option is to e-mail them at service@haband.net. They also list an order number as 1-800-742-2263. Note that the Web site is www.haband.com, but the e-mail is haband.net. Sun Spots knows not why.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I purchased a $50 gift certificate for a gift for my husband at Dragonfly Day Spa & Salon located at 250 Center St. in Auburn. Unfortunately, there is a closed sign on the door and calls to their published number do not go through. Have they moved to another location or will they refund my $50?
Also, could you find out if Bagels and Things will reopen in another location? Thank you. — DeeCee, Leeds
ANSWER: Sun Spots recently answered the Dragonfly question from other readers with gift certificates. Barbara, who used to manage Dragonfly, and Jim, the owner, said they are not going to reopen and will not refund your money. They have made arrangements for D’Avantis, 20 East Ave., 782-0202, to honor your gift certificate.
Sun Spots is also told that Bagels and Things will not reopen.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Scottish Rite Masons wish to thank those in the communities of Franklin County for your assistance by donating turkeys, pies, etc. and their time and to Mount Blue High School for the cafeteria to facilitate the Thanksgiving Day dinner. This, our eighth year, was again a huge success. Again, thank you. — Rufus and Charlene Cox, coordinators, New Sharon
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Sew Fabulous! Sewing Club at Hillview would like to thank all of the people who donated to the program here. We received almost $2,500 in donations and had to turn down donations as we have no more room to store the products. We feel so thankful for all that was donated, and the girls are already planning all the items they want to make.
Thank you to everyone involved for enriching the lives of youth who live at a low-income housing development and who deserve an opportunity to gain life skills.
The Aspirations program has sent out thank-you letters to the people whose addresses we had available, along with some photos of dresses the participants have made so far. The program would like to invite anyone who donated to the program to call Resident Services at 783-8539 and leave your address. Pictures and a thank-you card will be sent to you. Best wishes. — The Sew Fabulous! Sewing Club
