LIVERMORE FALLS — Sgt. Matthew K. Roy was escorted home to Maine by A-Co. First Bt. 125th Marine Reg. from Topsham, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine State Police, along with the Patriot Riders of Maine, on Saturday, Jan. 9. A-Co.First Bt. 125th Marine Reg. served as honor guard during visiting hours and members of the Frank L. Mitchell, V.F.W. Post 3335 and Am-Vets Post 33 both of Jay, performed the military service for Matthew at the funeral home on Monday night. Funeral services for Sgt. Roy were held on Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Church, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin presiding. T.J. Plourde did the first and second readings. Larry Shovelton read letters from Matthew’s grandparents, Clifford and Marion Tenney. Musical selections by organist Therese Therrien and the resurrection choir were “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” On Eagles Wings,” “America the Beautiful” and the “Marine Hymn.” Soloist Patty Schoen sang “Lean on Me.” Squadron 252 from Cherry Point, N.C., arrived on Monday night and served as honor guard, firing squad and bearers for the service. Also present were the Patriot Riders of Maine. The flags were presented to the family by Sq. 252 Commander, Lt. Col. David Morris, Sgt. Major Albert Caisse and Gy. Sgt. Reuben McBroom. Interment will be held in the spring at Pleasant View Cemetery in Livermore Falls. Arrangements were by Finley Funeral Home.
