ALFRED, Maine (AP) — Crews are repairing roads and homeowners are pumping out basements in Maine following the latest round of torrential rains, but officials say they’re thankful the damages weren’t worse.
York County Emergency Management Agency Director Bob Bohlmann said Thursday that several roads remain closed and some homes have a foot or more of standing water around them.
But he feels lucky the two-day storm didn’t result in any significant evacuations or power outages and that coastal erosion was minimal.
The Maine Emergency Management Agency says officials are starting to assess damages as the state begins drying out from the fourth major storm in the past five weeks. Bohlmann said the town of South Berwick received more than 20 inches of rainfall in March.
