BIW employees earn certificates

: Six employees from Bath Iron Works earned certificates of completion in May at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. They were the first to complete a pilot program in supervisor development that was designed for new supervisors in the manufacturing areas of marine electrician, pipefitting, structural fitting and machining. Developed in partnership with BIW, the one-year program combines on-the-job training at BIW with credit courses at CMCC. The course materials were customized to apply to the manufacturing environment to enhance the student learning experience. The students received a certificate in business administration and management from CMCC and will be guaranteed positions as manufacturing leadpersons at BIW. They also will be given the opportunity to earn associate degrees.
