SOUTH PARIS — Deering Memorial United Methodist Church will once again welcome the music of the Yet-to-be-Named Banjo Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 9.

“We are so excited to have the Banjo Club coming back to play at Deering,” said the Rev. Dawn-Victoria Mitchell, pastor of Deering Memorial. “Everyone had a great time when they were here last summer. In fact, all winter I had people asking, ‘when are you having the Banjo Club back?'” she said.

The club held its first practice at the Greenwood Municipal Building in March of 2004. Their membership now boasts musicians from several Maine communities, including Eliot. In its short history, the club has played many gigs, including two Mollyockett Days on the bandstand in Bethel, and a concert on the Songo River Queen II, a stern-wheeler riverboat. The club has also entertained fair-goers at past Oxford and Fryeburg fairs.

Tickets for the concert are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors over 55 and children under 12 are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the concert. During the concert, there will be a brief intermission with baked goods and drinks available with a free-will offering.

All proceeds will support the church’s efforts to preserve and restore the Tower on their historic building.

Deering Memorial Church is located at the corner of Main and Church streets. The church is handicapped accessible and parking is available in the public lot behind the South Paris Library.
