NORWAY — The Mission Committee of the Second Congregational Church, UCC, will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, in the church parking lot, 205 Main St. There will be hanging plants, herb baskets, geraniums, house and garden plants, annuals and perennials.
The proceeds from the sale will support Maine Seacoast Mission’s ongoing work in Maine. The church has for many years supported the Maine Seacoast Mission with children’s Christmas gifts, warm mittens and hats and used clothing. However, over a year ago, the mission was forced to close their thrift shop, a longtime source of income. Now, they only accept monetary donations and new children’s Christmas gifts.
The Mission impacts Maine island residents by providing access to high quality health care through a nurse on the their boat, the Sunbeam, and medical specialists via a telemedicine unit on the Sunbeam. Through health clinics, educational health talks, and personalized health care, islanders receive the health care necessary to live on an island year round.
Island Ministries impact residents of nine islands by supporting six ministers who lead worship, counsel islanders and work with island youth.
Maine Seacoast Mission also ministers to coastal communities and fisheries. A minister brings fishermen, regulators and academicians together to find common ground in preserving the fishing stock while also preserving the jobs that support year round island life.
