LEWISTON — A funeral Mass honoring the life of Raymond J.P. Laverdiere was celebrated on Wednesday at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Prince of Peace Parish, following prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Daniels celebrated the Mass and recited committal prayers at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
During the Mass the first reading was presented by Mr. Laverdiere’s sister-in-law, Pauline Bourgoin, and the Prayer of the Faithful was read by his brother-in-law, Joseph Bourgoin. The Offertory was brought to the altar by Mr. Laverdiere’s grandchildren, Lysa and Riley Laverdiere. Following the committal prayers at the cemetery the U.S. Marine Corps played “Taps” and presented our country’s flag to Mr. Laverdiere’s daughter, Anita Richards. During the folding of the flag, Moe Marquis from the Central Maine Marine Corps League sang “The Marine Corps Hymn” in honor of Raymond. Bearers were Tim and Ryan Richards, Jamison Leavitt, Rene and Lenny Bourgoin and Bobby Boulet. A reception of fellowship was held at Davinci’s Restaurant following the services at the cemetery.
