Flag Day

RUMFORD — The Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 will hold its annual Flag Day ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the Veterans’ Park, Congress Street.

In the event of rain, it will take place at the Lodge, 60 River St.

Red Cross meeting

PORTLAND — The Southern Maine Chapter of the American Red Cross will meet Thursday, June 24, at the Portland Elks Lodge, 1945 Congress St. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting will begin at 7:45 p.m. and the chapter will report on Red Cross work in Maine and Haiti.

The chapter will also ratify new board members. Red Cross members, volunteers and friends are encouraged to attend; there is no cost (cash bar). Society archives

HEBRON — The Hebron Historical has announced it will open its archives to the public for research from 1 to 4 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, beginning June 15.

The archives are located at the Brighton Hill School Moody Library on Route 124. For more information, call 966-2177 or 739-6098.

Rotary meeting

BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Lake Region Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Bridgton Alliance Church.

Wayne Peabody will present. Peabody, a resident of Denmark, has been a pilot since 1972. He has been formally trained in photogrammetric and remote sensing techniques by the federal mapping agency and owned and operated an aerial mapping company for 20 years.

With his new aerial photo business, Green Parrot Aerials, he focuses on local ponds, lakes and mountains. He has more than 4,500 images of 87 ponds and scenic views.

All are welcome to attend.

Open house

OTISFIELD — The Bell Hill Meetinghouse on Bell Hill Road will be open for public inspection from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 16.

There will be several open houses during the summer, in partial compliance with the terms of a New Century Community Program grant for historic buildings renovation which the association received in 2008. Since receiving that grant, the association has undertaken some basic repairs to the historic 1839 meetinghouse, including re-roofing part of the building, repairing and strengthening the windows and resetting several granite foundation stones and the front steps.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Flea market

HARRISON — An inside/outside flea market will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the VFW Post 9328, Route 35, Waterford Road.

Tables are available to rent inside for $10 each; outside, vendors can set up for $5. Early set up on market day will start at 7 a.m. Call Bev Martin at 583-2232.
