PORTLAND — The Maine Cancer Foundation presented several awards at its annual meeting held on June 15. More than 120 people were in attendance representing board members, grant recipients, volunteers and donors.

The 2010 Carroll Award was presented to the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor for their efforts to advance the path to a cancer free future.

Susan Rowan, executive director, was presented with a special Carroll Award for her efforts in leading the foundation since 1998. Rowan will step down this fall to pursue other interests.

The Carroll Awards are named after Ron Carroll, M.D., who had a long career in Maine as a medical oncologist. He was also involved with the foundation since its inception and was board president for several years. The award was created in his honor upon his retirement.

The 2010 Founders Award for extraordinary volunteerism went to Doug Stewart of Cumberland, who has a long history of volunteering at several of the foundation’s events.

Also acknowledged for their contributions were Sheri Danforth of Burgess Advertising and Dave Marchese of Marchese and Associates.

Oxford Networks, Saco Biddeford Savings Institution, Maritime Energy and Town and Country Credit Union were saluted for their support of the foundation in the past year.
