A former state senator and state representative from Portland was injured this morning in a car accident on Interstate 295 near Tukey’s Bridge in Portland.

Michael Brennan, 57, of Portland, lost control of his Honda when it struck the guard rails and was then hit by a pickup truck, which was towing a minivan, driven by George Speck, 48, of Augusta.

Brennan was pinned inside his car for a time and taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries, none of them life-threatening, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The crash caused a significant tie-up in the southbound lane of Interstate 295.
