AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Maine Education Deprtment says high school students’ scores on the SAT and the Advanced Placement tests remained stable and a more diverse student population took the tests.

The department cites a report released Monday by the College Board. State Education Commissioner Angela Faherty says Maine’s participation rate is the highest in the nation and continues to remain stable, while representing a more diverse student population.

The SAT is Maine’s statewide grade 11 assessment, the reason why the state has such a high participation rate. But scores tend to be lower than those of other states, because only college-bound students elsewhere tend to take the exams.
