AUBURN — The timing, the campaign says, was a coincidence.

On Thursday, independent candidate for governor Shawn Moody’s business, Moody’s Collision Centers, joined the new member ranks of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce.

Then, with the election only seven weeks away, Moody announced his newest collision center is bound for the Twin Cities next year.

It will be Moody’s sixth location in Maine, and the farthest north.

“We’re looking in the Lewiston-Auburn area and we’re leaning toward Lewiston right now,” Moody said. “We should be making an announcement by the end of the year as to the actual location.”

One of his trusted staffers lives in Greene and would run the shop.

“When we go into an area like this, we’ll hire people from this area because they have a vested interest,” he said.

The new shop will employ 12 to 15 people, full time.

Danielle Moody, with Moody’s campaign, said the company had been looking at land in the area for a while.

Moody’s has been doing auto body and collision repairs for more than 30 years and operates centers in Portland, Gorham, Scarborough, Biddeford and Sanford. He employs a total of 75 people.
