FARMINGTON — A Livermore man accused of going to the Farmington police station with 14 grams of cocaine in his shoes was one of 38 people indicted by a grand jury on Friday.
William Tardif, 42, of 202 Fish Meadow Road, was indicted on a felony charge of aggravated trafficking in cocaine. A conviction on the charge carries up to 30 years in prison. The charge was elevated due to a prior conviction where Tardif served time in federal prison for cocaine possession, Maine Drug Agency Supervisor Gerry Baril said previously. He was on supervised release when he was arrested at the Farmington station in August.
A Maine Drug Enforcement agent working a shift for Farmington police found the cocaine in Tardif’s shoes during a search after he went to the police station on a non-drug-related matter to obtain papers, Baril had said.
The agent recognized Tardif as a convicted felon and became suspicious of Tardif’s behavior, he said.
After contacting Tardif’s probation officer and learning that Tardif was subject to random searches and prohibited from possessing cocaine, the drug agent was authorized to search Tardif, Baril said previously.
The agent found plastic bags containing powder in them that looked like shoe inserts but in this case were cocaine, Baril said.
A Livermore Falls man accused of breaking into Spruce Mountain Pharmacy in Jay in July was also indicted on charges Friday. Lucas Caron, 19, of 93 Park St., was indicted on charges of felony burglary and misdemeanor stealing drugs and criminal mischief. Conviction on the felony carries up to five years in prison, while the other charges each carry up to 364 days.
Caron was caught on security tape as he entered through a window in the pharmacy, according to Jay police. His picture appeared on news channels and newspapers, and he was located. The drugs he is accused of stealing were recovered there, police said.
A Farmington woman, Ashley Hardy, 21, of 360 Weeks Mills Road, was indicted on charges of felony terrorizing and misdemeanor threatening display of a weapon. Convictions on those charges are five years in prison on the felony and 364 days on the misdemeanor.
Hardy is accused in what Farmington police described as a “road rage incident” in July. According to police, Hardy was traveling toward town on the Weeks Mills Road when another female driver pulled behind her, and Hardy was apparently angered by the other driver’s actions.
Hardy put on her brakes, and when the second driver went around her to avoid hitting her, Hardy is accused of pulling a handgun from her purse and showing it to the driver, police previously said.
